Presentation Title “Search for a Hepatic Factor that Stimulates Alpha Cell Proliferation”
Status This meeting has already occurred

Meeting Agenda/Notes

When glucagon signaling is disrupted in liver, alpha cells in the pancreatic islet proliferate resulting in hyperglucagonemia and hyperplasia. This suggests that there is cross-talk between the alpha cell and the liver. In our search for the hepatic factor responsible for the stimulating alpha cell proliferation, we are using transcriptional profiling and fractionation of the serum from mice with increased levels of this factor. Today's presentation will briefly discuss these efforts and our studies to determine if human alpha cells respond to this factor.
