|Presentation Title||"Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) Enhances β-cell Regeneration"|
|Status||This meeting has already occurred|
My current research is focused on understanding how CTGF enhances β-cell regeneration after 50% β-cell ablation. I have observed that CTGF over-expression promotes partial restoration of β-cell mass, reaching 50% recovery after 4 weeks of CTGF treatment, primarily via increased β-cell proliferation. Thus, although normal adult β-cells are unresponsive to CTGF, it can induce replication in the unique islet micro-environment of β-cell destruction. My ongoing studies hope to address both the β-cell intrinsic and extrinsic changes in the islet following β-cell ablation that allow for CTGF responsiveness.
