Mnx1 (HB9, Hlxb9) is expressed in early multipotent pancreatic progenitors, and later restricted to the mature b cells. Mnx1 global null mice have dorsal pancreas agenesis, while ventral pancreas develops normally significantly reduced numbers of b cells that are immature. However, its function in b cells have not been examined so far. Here, I will present data on novel roles of Mnx1 in b/d cell fate selection during endocrine differentiation, and its function in b cell fate maintenance and proliferation.
