Our facility provides a wide range of digital imaging, technical drawing and graphic design services for instructional use, publication and seminars. Design and production for large format or large volume jobs including signage, displays, posters, brochures and booklets is also available.
Examples of the media we produce include:
Shown is the pancreatic β-cell. The uptake of glucose initiates the TGF-β signaling pathway to activate transcription factor KLF11. KLF11 then upregulates insulin gene expression and also downregulates the transcription activities of the SOD2 and catalase 1 genes.
ZnT8 is a beta cell specific zinc transporter localized on the membrane of insulin secretory granules. ZnT8 contains six transmembrane domains and a histidine-rich loop between transmembrane domains 4 and 5, which is the putative zinc binding domain. The divalent zinc cation would be transported into the lumen of the insulin secretory vesicle where it would bind to insulin and create the zinc-dependent hexameric complex.
In the center of the panel are shown the four major cell types along with a fifth cell type - the ghrelin-producing ε-cell. The islet on the left illustrates an idealized distribution of α, β, δ and PP cells. The islet on the right represents an islet that includes ε-cells (purple). Note that the ε-cells are located on the periphery of the islet.
