Meeting Agenda/Notes

The generation of functional tissue to replace that which was lost from injury or disease has the potential to alleviate a wide variety of human conditions, including diabetes. As there are no known stem cells that can generate new β-cells in the adult islet or pancreas, regenerative medicine approaches are focused on the expansion of existing cells into differentiated and functional β-cells. Using animal models and ex vivo assays, we explore the ability of Ctgf to stimulate β-cell proliferation. Our ongoing studies will also determine the potential of using bioengineered polymers to therapeutically deliver Ctgf to transplanted β-cells in vivo.
