Presentation Title Death and the β-cell: convergence of multiple pathways leading to β-cell loss in a model of peripheral insulin resistance
Status This meeting has already occurred

Meeting Agenda/Notes

Prolonged insulin resistance can lead to β-cell dysfunction and eventually loss of β-cells.  It is important to understand the mechanisms that lead to β-cell loss under these conditions to improve β-cell survival.   We have developed a zebrafish model of skeletal muscle insulin resistance that in conjunction with overnutrition exhibits a rapid loss of β-cells.  I will present evidence that ER stress, inflammation, necroptosis and macrophage infiltration are all involved in the elimination of β-cells in this model.
