Presentation Title | Human stem cell models to examine manganese neurobiology in health and disease |
Status | This meeting has already occurred |
The essential micronutrient manganese (Mn) is enriched in brain, especially the basal ganglia. This brain region is also highly vulnerable to Mn neurotoxicity. We have used human induced pluripotent stem cell derived neurons to examine alterations in Mn neurobiology that occur in striatal lineage neuroprogenitors in the context of Huntington’s disease as well as neurodevelopmental changes in Mn handling that occur in the mesencephalic dopaminergic neuron lineage.
