Dr. Yu's research interests include: 1) epidemiology and prevention of major chronic diseases through healthy diets and lifestyles; 2) biomarkers and metabolomics in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; and 3) diet-gut microbiota interactions and host cardiometabolic health. Using resources from large prospective cohort studies and cohort consortia in the US, Europe, and Asia, Dr. Yu has identified several dietary factors and novel biomarkers in relation to the risk and mortality of major chronic diseases. Dr. Yu's current research projects focus on the gut microbial metabolism of dietary components and the application of advanced omics technologies, such as metagenomics and metabolomics, in population-based studies.
