Dr. Epstein is a psychologist and health services researcher
focused on the use, quality and potential unintended consequences
of interventions, programs and policies, particularly for members
of vulnerable populations who are at increased risk for adverse
outcomes due to biological differences, elevated disease burden,
social characteristics and/or dependence on others. His past work
has focused on pregnant women and children with child welfare or
juvenile justice system involvement. Through his work, Dr. Epstein
seeks to provide information urgently needed by patients, families,
healthcare providers and policymakers to make care decisions. In
addition to his appointment in Psychiatry, Dr. Epstein is also
Director of the Vanderbilt Center of Excellence for Children in
State Custody and Member of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for
Research on Human Development.
