The primary interest of the laboratory is centered around the transcriptome analysis of schizophrenia in the prefrontal cortex and superior temporal gyrus, as well as on the effect of antipsychotic medications. These studies will also address gender differences in schizophrenia at the molecular level. Furthermore, we will try to better understand the molecular phenotype of layer 3 cortical cells in the prefrontal cortex and analyze the molecular changes that occur in layer 3 cells in subjects with schizophrenia. In addition, we are interested in 1) Environmental influences on neuronal gene expression, 2) Neuroprotection by physical activity and 3) Gene expression patterns across human brain disorders.
