Our laboratory is currently funded to studying the cellular mechanisms regulating  tissue regeneration following acute kidney injury, and evaluating the use of small molecules identified from a high content screen in Zebrafish embryos by our long term collaborator, Neil Hukriede, from the University of Pittsburgh,  for their ability to accelerate these innate mechanisms of tissue regeneration following injury.  To this end we have developed a number of one and two-hit models of acute kidney injury in mice, and are using these to define similarities and differences in injury and injury repair mechanisms across different models and their responses to therapy. We are actively exploring the role of HDACs in regulating these regenerative events.
