The PMM (Proteolysis. Metastasis and Microenvironment) group comprises the laboratory groups headed by Barbara Fingleton, Oliver McIntyre, Lee Gorden and Michael VanSaun. Our overarching interest is in understanding the impact of the microenvironment on tumor progression and metastasis in GI cancers (colon, liver, pancreas) and breast cancer. We have particular expertise in MMP biology and functional imaging, which is enhanced by extensive collaborations here at Vanderbilt. Another major focus area is the contributions of inflammatory cells, and the cytokines they release, to tumor progression and metastasis, including chemoresistance.
