ProfileGlaucoma is a major public global health problem accounting for
vision loss and blindness in millions of people world-wide.
Although glaucoma can be treated by lowering intraocular pressure
with medications, laser treatments or surgery, most patients are
unaware of decreased vision until advanced stages of the disease.
Improved treatment for glaucoma patients requires better
understanding of the disease mechanisms and development of early
detection strategies. Our broad long term goals are to understand
the disease pathophysiology and to identify genetic markers for
early detection and better treatment of glaucoma.
